Unemployment is on the rise nationally, but PG is seeing a turnaround.
Statistics Canada reports that the jobless rate jumped nationally to 6.8% in February from 6.6%, last February.
Analyst Vincent Ferrao says the story is a bit better here in the city, with an unemployment rate sitting at 4.4%, down from 6.1% in February 2014.
Ferrao says there were more people in the region working in industry, culture, and recreation, as well as educational services.
However, Ferrao points out that there were declines in retail wholesale trade, along with accommodation and food services.
Overall, Canada lost 1,000 jobs in February.
