Theatre Northwest will be presenting a stage reading of ‘Strange Encounters of the Local Mind’ this Saturday (14th) night.
The show will be made up of six brief shorts created by four different local playwrights with the Nechako Community Theatrics Society.
Each short will be relatively brief, the collection of shorts is not intended to be a single story.
“We are particularly excited to host local playwrights in this format,” says Marnie Hamagami, Executive Director of Theatre NorthWest, “This is just what we imagined when we first started talking about these projects.”
The playwrights and their work were submitted to Theatre NorthWest by Chantal Girard of the Nechako Community Theatrics Society.
“It’s just a great opportunity for not only the playwrights but for our local actors because the plays are so diverse in so many ways,” explained Girard.
The shorts are as follows: Neurochemicals that make up our lives, The Case of Cindy, Souls for Sale, Cheats and Exploits, Never Fly with him Again and Minty Gobbles.
It will be a particularly exciting night for James Mills, who wrote Souls for Sale, as he will be experiencing a couple of firsts.
“I do not only do this for the thrill of being on a stage and working with so many talented people, but this is my first time not only working as a director but it’s also my first time sharing creative work with the public,” said Mills.
The shorts will cover a wide variety of topics and genres including comedy, drama, and mystery.
In addition, Theatre NorthWest also announced a new stage read ‘On a First Name Basis’ by Bradley Charles.
Charles presented ‘Hurry Hard’ on the Theatre Northwest stage earlier this month.
Tickets to both stage readings are available online.
