The Prince George Climb for Cancer is back on and will have some special changes to adhere to social distancing guidelines.
Co-chair for the Climb for Cancer, Doug Bell stated, “rather than doing it over one day, we’re doing it over four days so we can separate the groups.”
Funds raised from the event each year go towards the Kordyban Lodge, which provides cancer patients with mental health services, food and lodging near the BC Cancer Centre for the North.
Bell describes the facility as a “safe haven” for those going through cancer treatment which also has a wig and prosthetic bank.
“This event is for people who don’t really have a choice and have to undergo treatment,” Bell adds, “It’s important for us to really step up to the plate and support those going through treatment, that’s why being able to set aside an hour or two on one of the four days is so important.”
$172,000 has been raised since this event began in 2015.
The BC Cancer society is advising teams on their website to not show up until 10 minutes before their assigned time to ensure social distancing measures.
The climb will be running the weekends of August 8th and 9th, as well as the following weekend.
