Environment Canada issues special weather statement for Central Interior

Heavy rainfall may be in store according to a special weather statement issued by Environment Canada.

The alert is expected to continue through tomorrow (Thursday), with 20 to 40 mm of rain predicted.

Although rain is expected to taper off tomorrow morning, some showers are likely to persist until afternoon.

Environment Canada is classifying the rain as a “prolonged event” with a possibility of thunderstorms adding 15-25 mm over short periods.

There is also concern that river levels may rise due to rainfall, leading to heavy flows in the Quesnel River (Cariboo Mountains), the North Thompson (Blue River/Clearwater region), and South Thompson (Shuswap).

Rainfall warnings may be issued as the system further develops, and up-to-date information on weather alerts can be found online.
