UNBC President steers away from ceremonial tradition

UNBCs president Daniel Weeks is breaking tradition when it comes to his ceremonial convocation.

The installation of a president is usually an impressive event, but Weeks says he would much rather spend the money elsewhere, and would rather invest in his students:

“The history and traditions behind an installation go back centuries really, and going forward the fiscal realities of Post Secondary education right across Canada really just demand that we re-think what we are doing”

Weeks says just like anywhere else they have limited funds, and must spend it wisely, where it is needed most.

Although he was disappointed, he mentioned they were anticipating an expenditure of between $35,000 to $50,000 for the convocation, and says he’s pleased that money will now be going towards student awards
