Local hair salon eyes June 1st for potential return to business

A local hair salon is looking at returning to operation after being forced to close during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Razor’s edge is eyeing a tentative return date of June 1st. but will be implementing a few changes to comply with physical distance regulations.

The salon has been closed since mid-March, shortly before the provincial health order issued March 21 by Doctor Bonnie Henry.

“We closed the week before just because we couldn’t maintain the [physical] distancing that Doctor Henry was requiring, so we took it upon ourselves to close,” said Manager Tammy Ferreira.

“We didn’t imagine we would be closed for this long, so it’s pretty devastating for the business and for the staff.”

The company is discussing ways to mitigate the risk, including changing the building layout,  extra cleaning, as well as how to deal with customers.

“We are an occupation where you touch people all day long, so it is a little bit harder than what other companies have to do,”

“We already wear gloves and sanitize as it is, but we will definitely be getting our operators to wear a mask and, for some services, a face shield.”

Clients will be required to wear a mask they have brought from home before receiving a service at the establishment.

Masks will also be available for purchase at the front counter, adds Ferreira.

She says it’s been tough for salons across Prince George, but the situation could be a lot worse in her opinion.
