Following the Ministry of Education’s announcement that students will return to classrooms across the province on June 1st, School District 57 is preparing to welcome students back.
“Our intention will be to have classes starting by June 1st, as mandated by the Ministry,” said SD57 superintendent Anita Richardson.
Kindergarten to grade 5 students will be in class 2-3 days a week, while grades 6 to 12 will be learning in classrooms 1 day a week.
“I think the number of children in our buildings will continue to grow up to June 1st,” said board chair Tim Bennett, referring to an increase in students who need extra support, students of essential workers, and students whose parents have gone back to work.
“I think June 1st is when we’ll see that next big influx of kids coming in,” Bennett added.
Richardson also emphasized the return to class will be optional.
Currently, the school year is still set to end on June 25th.
