ICBC is investing $66,000 to improve roads throughout the region.
The areas targeted by this funding is PG, Valemount, and Vanderhoof.
Road Safety Coordinator Diana Pozer says safer roads means lower rates for customers.
She says the most recent evaluation of their program found that over two years, for every dollar invested, ICBC has seen a return of five dollars saved for customers, thanks to reduced crashes.
“The evaluation also found that following a project’s completion, on average there’s a 20% reduction in severe crashes and a 12% reduction in property damage from crashes,” she says. “So what that’s all about is trying to reduce those crashes and that helps everybody be safer.”
$41,000 of that chunk of money was put specifically into the project in Prince George to transform 4th Avenue from one way to two way traffic.
These funds are a part of $7.7 million ICBC invested in 2014 across the province.
