The Province has announced that 35.6 million dollars in COVID-19 emergency funding will be distributed through Community Living BC (CLBC) to ensure that people with developmental disabilities are supported for the duration of the pandemic.
The money will be provided over three months from CLBC to support group homes, home sharing, and supported independent living arrangements utilized by 9,500 adults with developmental disabilities.
“This funding will ensure that quality of care and staffing levels are maintained so that the people who depend on these services remain safe and supported,” said Shane Simpson, Minister of Social Development and Poverty Reduction.
Many providers are taking on extra caregiving requirements due to the new health guidelines and disruptions to existing services and resources such as community inclusion programs and day programs.
