Closing ceremonies to be fueled by local biomass

Heat for the closing ceremonies of the Canada Winter Games will be provided by local trees.

The Assistant Director of Facility Management at UNBC David Claus says the $1.1 million dollar Sustainable Community Demonstration project will eventually be bringing heat to campus residences:

“The athletes and some of the other family members and people like that, that are here for the games – they stand the potential once this whole project is rolled out that they will eventually be living in those residences when they come back as students, and the bio energy that is currently heating the main campus will by that time be providing heat to the residences that they will potentially be living in”

UNBC already sees nearly 70% of its heat coming from renewable energy produced right on campus.
