Long weekends generally mean busier days at Regional District transfer stations and landfills and despite the impact of COVID-19, the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George does not expect this weekend to be any different.
“This is the time of year when we see a lot of people coming to our landfills and transfer stations loaded up with waste from their spring cleaning projects,” explained Manager of Waste Diversion Laura Zapotichny in an official statement.
Due to physical distancing protocols, fewer people will be allowed to access facilities at once, which may lead to longer wait times.
To further manage traffic at the Foothills Boulevard Regional Landfill, the Regional District is suspending all sales of Norgrow compost until further notice.
Most facilities will be closed on Good Friday, and the public is encouraged to avoid unnecessary trips to the landfill, and to pay with credit, debit, or exact change when possible.
“We are hopeful [that] with the public’s cooperation we will manage through these challenging times,” Zapotichny added.
