“This is as good as it’s going to get,” : McTeague on PG gas prices

As you may have noticed, gas prices in Prince George are as low as 69.9.

Gas expert Dan McTeague who is with Canadians for Affordable Energy doesn’t believe fuel prices will be dropping any further.

“I suspect this is as good as it’s going to get for us here in Prince George and pretty much for the entire province. We could see a scenario where wholesale prices go up to four or five cents a litre by Saturday or Sunday.”

McTeague adds we have seen a net decrease of about 45 cents a litre in the past few weeks.

He believes once the pandemic is over, prices will rise back to what they were before.

“That’s followed very closely by the fate of oil, not just Canadian oil but oil in general, when you think of the beginning of the year oil was selling for about 63 bucks per barrel for West Texas Intermediate and it’s now pushing to twenty dollars a barrel with some places pushing below that.”

“Once we get past the pandemic and I don’t have a crystal ball that tells me how to get through that, I will leave that to the health experts but the low prices won’t last forever. On the other end, it will be higher prices as a result of getting back to more normal levels.”

Despite the downturn, McTeague states Diesel fuel has been holding its own during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic.
