One local 16-year-old has ‘netted’ second prize in Lego’s Build United! contest.
The competition challenged participants to build a creation celebrating the Manchester United Football Club.
Caleb Hoy is the first to admit he’s not a soccer fan, so he had to do some research before he started to build.
“I don’t know the first thing about kicking a ball,”
His mom, Tara, was quick to agree.
“He didn’t know what sport they were talking about when he looked at the contest! I think that’s what made it even more shocking when he won,” she said.
This particular creation took about a day and a half to make, but his regular routine includes building one project a day.
“It’s a 64×64 base plate. So I started off building the stadium, and I built the mini-figures to put on the stadium,” he explained.
“But, then I decided it wasn’t enough, so I built a frame to make it look like a TV, and then I added the remote control and the speaker.”
Caleb is homeschooled and sets aside time after his morning coursework to focus on building lego.
“He is a mad builder for sure,” said Tara.
“He really wants to become a professional Lego builder, but also I can see him being into architecture as he gets older,”
The young builder hasn’t slowed down; he just put the finishing touches on his latest project named ‘Life in Parrot-dise’.
