Prince George joined cities and towns across the country to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Canada’s National Flag.
Members of the Military, Legion, RCMP, and Rangers raised the flag at City Hall in front of a truly national crowd made up of locals and visitors for the Winter Games alike.
Those in attendance were of all ages, many too young to remember the previous flag that expressed our identity to the world, though Mayor Lyn Hall told a story of how he remembered its creation in the media; From the contest to design the flag, to its unveiling.
Also speaking at the event was Prince George – Cariboo MP Dick Harris, Prince George – Valemount MLA Shirley Bond, and Lheidli T’enneh’s oldest living Elder, Mary Gouchie.
After the national anthem and reaffirmation of allegiance, everyone at City Hall celebrated with what every birthday needs, cake.
