In an effort to help displaced forestry workers, The District of Fort St. James is releasing funding starting March 16th through the Fort St. James Bucks Initiatives.
Eligible workers will be provided funding to assist in purchasing recreation activities, groceries, and other household items.
Funding will be provided in Fort St. James Bucks promoting local purchasing and supporting our local businesses.
The Community Support Grant Program provided $875,000 in short-term funding to support 11 Interior BC communities that have been impacted by a permanent or indefinite mill closure or shift reduction.
Fort St. James was eligible for $75,000, or $250 per applicant, to support impacted workers as a result of the Conifex sawmill indefinite curtailment.
Fort St. James Bucks provided through this program may be worth $2 for every $1 spent on certain services at participating businesses.
“We understand for many families this contribution will only offer a small relief but are confident that every bit will help,” said Mayor Playfair “The District continues to seek senior
government support for impacted workers while working with our partners to advocate for other supports”
