Minister of Sport visiting PG for opening of Winter Games

Canada’s Minister of Sport is in Prince George until tomorrow for the opening of the Winter Games.

Minister Bal Gosal says the impact of the Canada Games on athletics in Canada is huge;

“When you look at our team Canada, almost half the members of our Olympic and Paralympic teams participated in the Canada Summer or Winter Games. Government recognizes this, which is why we are so proud to sponsor them.”

Taxpayers are the biggest backers of the 2015 games, with $11 million coming from the federal government.

Gosal also pointed out that the Canada Games are completely unique around the world, as no other country holds multi sport events with provinces competing against each other.

He said he is still working out the schedule, but so far he plans on attending hockey and wheelchair basketball games before returning for the closing ceremonies at the end of the month.
