The Cariboo Cougars made it to the semi-finals of the 25-team Mac’s triple-A Midget tournament, held in Calgary.
The Cats lost to the Calgary Buffaloes 6-2, after earlier skating by the Okanagan Rockets 4-3 in the quarter-finals.
They finished the event with a 4-2 record.
Their only losses were to the tournament finalists, the Buffaloes, and the Moose Jaw Warriors.
Cariboo Cougars Head Coach Tyler Brough said the loss in the semifinals was tough, but his team should be proud.
“We as a staff are very happy with the way they played. We beat some good teams, we were in a very tough pool.”
Going into the tournament Brough explained the goal was to make the quarter-finals and then see what could happen.
“Once you get into the quarter-finals it happens really fast! You play two games in a day, which nobody at this level does anymore.”
Brough said the Mac’s tournament is an odd experience, but it will serve as a rallying point for next year.
“You are trying to get the most out of them. You are trying to have your team peak at basically the mid-way point.”
“I think we are a team to be reckoned with.”
The Cougars will resume league play with January 11th and 12th in Kelowna, where they will take on the Rockets.
