A teacher’s club hopes to give shoeboxes filled with gifts, hygiene products, and school supplies to those less fortunate.
Angela Larsen, a teacher at Prince George Secondary School (PGSS), worked alongside 25 students to put together 53 shoeboxes for children in need.
They donated the packed boxes through non-profit organization Operation Christmas Child.
“I’ve done it by myself in the past, just packing one or two boxes, but when I got my job at PGSS I started running it as a club to try and get students involved,” Larsen explained.
“I ran it from 2014 until 2017. I didn’t do it last year, because I had too much on my plate, but I had quite a few students approach me this year asking me to do it again. I guess I’m officially signed up for life.”
The extracurricular club, simply called “The Operation Christmas Child Club” raised over $300 to help cover shipping costs for the shoe boxes they prepared.
“The thing that I think was really cool about this year is how student-driven it was,” Larsen commented.
