The City has considered it to be one of the largest infrastructure projects of the year.
Crews are repairing sections all over the 2nd Avenue Parkade where the concrete has separated from the rebar, or where the rebar was rusted.
Some of these sections are as small as 18 inches square; others are the size of a car. The work has involved removing the concrete in those sections, cleaning or even replacing the rebar, then repairing the area with new concrete.
Crews are about one third through pouring new concrete and have already completed 3200 square feet. Completion is expected by the late summer of 2020.
With nearly 500 parking stalls, the Second Avenue Parkade is the largest of Prince George’s five downtown parkades.
It’s 43 years old.
