Public library to close late-October as new entrance gets constructed

You still have plenty of time to pick up that next great read.

However, come Monday, Oct. 28, the Bob Harkins Branch of the Prince George Public Library will be closed until Friday, Nov. 1.

This comes as part of the project to construct a new Library entrance and circulation area. Significant demolition work is scheduled for that time period, which will negatively affect the ability of Library staff to provide service to the public.

Items that are due for return from Oct. 28 to Nov. 1 can be inserted in the book drop located on the ground level parking area. Alternatively, materials can be returned without financial penalty when the Library re-opens on Nov. 2. In addition, due dates will be extended by one week for all items due back to the Bob Harkins Branch during the closed period.

The Library has prepared a Q&A with information about accessing various Library services – such as renewals, book club pick-ups, and program registration – during the closure. This document is available from the Library website.

Note that the Nechako Branch in the Hart will be open that week except for Wednesday, Oct. 30.

The $4.36 million Library renovation project will provide a new, multi-story entrance providing improved access to Canada Games Plaza and the Library parking area, while also enhancing the reception/circulation area. The expansion is expected to open in early 2020 and is being built by Datoff Bros. Construction of Prince George. The Library was built in 1981.
