Full of hot air: PG Hospice strikes the bucket list

What’s on your bucket list?

For the Prince George Hospice Society, they took matters into their own hands in assisting residents with some of their lifelong dreams.

While it may not have been for everyone, as Donna Flood, Executive Director of the Prince George Hospice Society, told MyPGNow, a lot of people have dreamt of one day taking a hot air balloon ride.

“We’re really trying to inspire the community to pause and think what are those important things that you need to do before you get to the Hospice House? So we’re really trying to create some buzz within the community so we’re offering hot air balloon rides. It’s a chance to get up and experience that, which is on almost everyone’s bucket list.”

“Donna and I came up with this idea a few years back,” said Norm Coyne. “I actually had just come back from a trip in LA. There was something on my bucket list that I wanted to do in LA that wouldn’t have been possible if I didn’t have a list. We thought this was a great way to engage the community and actually think about what they want to achieve.”

The event acted as a way to raise awareness for the organization’s Bucket List Gala today (Saturday), which will get underway at 5:30 p.m. from the Civic Centre.

Flood added that one person will win the opportunity to live their top bucket list wish as well.

In past years, they’ve sent a family to Disneyland, as well as another with a trip to St. Lucia.

“we’d love to match what we did last year, which was about $90,000,” said Flood. We’re hoping to raise as much as we can in support fo the care we provide at Hospice.”

Robin Esrock, host of National Geographic’s World Travels and best-selling author of The Great Canadian Bucket List: One of a Kind Travel Experiences will be the keynote speaker once again.

According to the event’s page on EventBrite.com, each ticket to the gala includes weekly chances to win fulfillments of varying degrees. Each ticket purchased will be accompanied by a form to allow attendees to share the bucket list goals they hope to win.

Bucket List goals are broken down into three separate scales listed below:

A – The Highest Level (The Loftiest of Dreams). Past year’s winners have been a trip to St. Lucia and a family trip to Disneyland

B- The Middle Level (Difficult, but not out of reach). Some of last year’s winners received skydiving, white water rafting, and a helicopter ride around Prince George

C – The Lowest Level (In reach, only requiring a little push). Some of last year’s winners received language lessons, fitness training, and decluttering service.

Tickets for the event are $90 each.
