With yet another pedestrian death over the weekend the RCMP is struggling to understand the recent slew of incidents.
Corporal Craig Douglass says in the Prince George region alone since the beginning of October there have been 5 fatalities in four pedestrian related crashes.
Douglass couldn’t pinpoint a common cause for these kind of collisions:
“Its certainly unfortunate, its peculiar, it is sort of a trend not just in Prince George but across the Province. We’ve been finding a lot more pedestrian involved incidents with vehicles, [and] of course some of those are fatalities, it’s unusual but there is not one specific thing that’s leading to this – it is in most cases, preventable”
When it comes to pedestrian safety Douglass says making eye contact with drivers is paramount, as is reflective clothing and being mindful to cross at intersections only.
However, he also mentions that drivers need to be much more attentive and mindful of their surroundings in the darker winter months.
