SPCA dealing with ringworm outbreak

A curious case for the North Cariboo SPCA, as they are currently dealing with a ringworm outbreak.

Branch Manager Angela McClaren says a foster home cat was found with the fungal infection and precautions have been taken:

“We decided that considering the cat had been in the shelter for a lengthy period of time, that it was in the best interests of the staff, the volunteers, as well as the animals to go under full quarantine”

She says so far no other cats have tested positive for the infection, but they are still waiting for more test results.

McClaren says ringworm spores multiply by the thousands daily, so precautions were taken very seriously including the removal of any fabric made items.

They are asking for any donations to replace these items, and those can be dropped off at the SPCA on Lansdowne Road. Mclaren also says they could re-open certain adoption areas not exposed to the outbreak within the next week.
