A UNBC professor will be holding a talk Friday afternoon hoping to encourage interest in a potential world renowned ecological site.
Dr. Darwyn Coxon will be discussing the possible steps for the nomination of The Ancient Forest, located just 100 km East of Prince George – as a World Heritage Site.
He says the trail and the forest – with some trees as old as 2000 years – are highly valued and already protected, and believes even more should be done in recognition…”We might as well take advantage of that initiative and shine an international spotlight on it,” he says. “Let’s have Prince George known as a World Heritage Site. This would bring a lot of people into our region.”
Coxson will be speaking from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Weldwood theatre before opening a photo exhibit of the great trees and paths from 4:30 p.m. onwards.
