From tree to bowl; City Hall trees turned to art

Today, the Woodturners Guild has given new life to old wood.

When construction began last spring on the parkade and Park House condominium development across from City Hall, some trees had to be removed.

While the spruce trees were replanted at Duchess Park, elm and ash trees were turned over to community organizations like the Woodturners Guild, who in turn have created bowls, vases and pens which they are donating to the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation.

“The Guild has graciously donated some beautiful and unique pieces, which the Foundation will use to generate funds for healthcare equipment,” said Judy Neiser, CEO of the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation.

The artwork will be available for auction at the foundation’s next fundraiser.
