Soapbox Derby cars hit the streets this weekend

There are only two days left until the triumphant return of the Soapbox Derby to Prince George.

All the proceeds will be going to support Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Sue Pokiak with Maychild Media said she got the idea from watching the Little Rascals.

“They were racing the cars all around the corners, and I was like oh, we should bring that back to Prince George. Why aren’t people doing this? Then I was like you know what I am going to do this.”

Registration for the race is closed, but the event is free to watch.

Jane Gauehier, Community Development Coordinator with Big Brothers Big Sisters, said there will also be several kid-friendly games as well as a barbecue for people to enjoy.

The activities start at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Diefenbaker Park and the race will start at noon.

“We are super excited to be part of the event. It’s incredible to bring back this piece of history,” Gauehier said.
