After a bear spotting in Salmon Valley, BC Conservation is reminding people it’s not uncommon for this time of year.
The Prince George Conservation Office received a report of a bear with her cubs acting aggressively towards a woman near her house in the Salmon Valley area.
Conservation officer Eamon McArthur said the bear wants what people want, to be left alone.
“it was a normal activity by a black bear with cubs occasionally they will make some slapping noise they will do a little bit of a bluff charge, and at that point, it’s just momma bear getting people away from their cub.”
McArthur said there was no real concern to the woman’s safety because she was inside her house at the time, but there are some things people can keep in mind.
“That’s why we advise people whenever you are in the woods just travel in groups, make lots of noise, and have an air horn or a bear spray.
He added they are monitoring the situation, but the best thing to do if you run into a bear is to back away slowly.
