Environment Canada has downgraded the Severe Thunderstorm Warning in Prince George to a Thunderstorm Watch, but that does not mean we are out of the woods just yet.
Matt MacDonald, a Meteorologist with Environment Canada, said there is still the chance the thunderstorms could return.
“There is still potential, so we are keeping a close eye on the radar this afternoon. Just be on the lookout for heavy rain and we may re-issue a severe thunderstorm warning as we go into the evening.”
He said drivers should be careful on the roads, especially in the event of a downpour.
There has already been 10 to 15 millimetres of rainfall so far today, and depending on the weather there could be 5 to 10 millimetres more.
“It’s a good reminder that with thunderstorms with lightning, the only safe place to be is inside a vehicle or indoors. A reminder not to touch any appliances that are plugged in.”
As we are heading into the weekend, he added that residents can look forward to dryer condition starting on Friday.
