Downtown hotel business license revoked for ‘tremendous’ amount of issues

Prince George City Council has taken action on another problem property in the city.

At a hearing last night (Wednesday), they suspended the business license of The Lotus B&B at 197 Quebec Street.

“The bylaw services brought a report to us, and it indicated a number of calls by RCMP and Fire and just really the things that were happening at that location became problematic, so they put a license suspension together,” said Mayor Lyn Hall.

The owner appealed to council on the license suspension but after they reviewed calls for fire and RCMP service, they voted to uphold the six-month suspension, which takes effect on August 1st.

“Last night it was pointed out that this location has caused a tremendous amount of issues along 2nd Avenue. Council is taking this very seriously and we have for three or four years, making sure that these derelict properties that are causing issues in our community are taken care of through this process,” according to Hall.

He said it all really boils down to the concerns they heard from the RCMP, Fire and Bylaw Services.

Just two days ago at their regular council meeting, the city ordered the owner of the Willow Inn at 1656 Victoria Street to demolish the building on the property.

“We’re trying to clean up derelict properties, we’re just trying to ensure that these buildings that people are staying in are safe, but also that they’re not causing a hazard for the residential area surrounding them.”
