The Prince George Spruce Kings scored 5 unanswered goals in the first period (on just 10 shots) and went on to crush the Salmon Arm Silverbacks 8-3.  The victory snapped a 6-game losing streak before 1,057 fans. A dozen PG players picked up at least a point. Salmon Arm outshot the hosts 41-32. The 19-18-0-4 Spruce Kings host Victoria Saturday at 7 and Coquitlam Sunday at 3.  Prince George is third in the BCHL Mainland Division, six points behind Chilliwack and seven back of Langley.

–The Prince George Cougars have four home games in six nights starting this evening (Friday) against the Portland Winterhawks. The two teams also play Saturday at CN Centre. The 20-23-1 Cougars are 3rd in the B.C. Division, a point ahead of Vancouver and five in front of Kamloops. The 23-19-0-3 Winterhawks are 3rd in the U.S. Division.

–The 23-4-1 Cariboo Cougars resume major midget league play at South Island as they meet the 13-12-2 Royals Saturday and Sunday.

–The PG Farr Fabricating Bantam AAA Cougars host a five team minor hockey tournament this weekend at the Kin Centre with the final Sunday at 11:30am.

–The PG Players Bench Bantam Tier 2 Cougars are the host team for a six team minor hockey tournament at the Kin Centre and Coliseum. The championship game is scheduled for 2:15pm Sunday.

–The UNBC Timberwolves are home at the Northern Sport Centre for doubleheaders against  the TRU Wolfpack of Kamloops in Canada West basketball. Tip off tonight is 6 (women) and 8 (men) with Saturday’s games at 5 and 7pm. UNBC is 4-6 in the men’s division and 1-9 in the women’s standings. TRU is 6-4 (men) and 9-1 (women).

–Prince George Youth Soccer Association has made a major change to its schedule for the 2015 season. PGYSA will move from its historical May, June and September format to a 10-week continuous schedule, beginning May 2 (weather permitting) and concluding July 11th. The annual Score-a-thon and Active Start Soccer Fest
weekend will take place on June 27-28th.

–The BC Long Track Speed-Skating Championships are featured at the PG Outdoor Ice Oval Saturday and Sunday.  Three clubs – PG Blizzard, Fort St. James Falcons, & the Fort St. John Elks host the
Provincials. The meet serves as a tune-up for the Canada Winter Games.
