They want it all.
“Anything that’s laying around the yard,” Tony Muratori, Regional Manager for ABC Recycling, told MyPGNow. “We’ve all got those old barbecues, the old lawnmowers sitting around that your wife has been telling you to get cleaned up, you can bring on down and just toss it into one of the bins.”
It’s all for a good cause, as ABC Recycling is spending the weekend in the parking lot of the CN Centre accepting residents’ old appliances and other household metal items. In turn, all the items they receive will be weighed-out at their yard and then donating all proceeds to Variety Children’s Charity, who provide funds to children needing medical needs.
“If anyone needs a wheelchair ramp to their house or bathroom renovations or something to load wheelchairs in and out of their vehicles, they support them,” said Muratori about Variety.
Variety grants out over $250,000 a month to children in need throughout the province of B.C.
Muratori adds they’re also taking old paint cans, stating they’ve been in contact with the Regional District of Fraser Fort George who is allowing ABC Recycling to bring any paint cans they receive in for free. The same goes for any electronics.
“Every time you buy an appliance now, you’re actually paying for the disposal fee on that cost of the appliance, whether you bring it here or the landfills. That’s something new that people probably don’t know,” said Muratori.
Along with the equipment drop off, ABC Recycling has also partnered with Centennial Foods and Nechako Bottle Depot.
Centennial Foods is supplying lunches that can be purchased. Five dollars gets you a hamburger, french fries, as well as a drink.
Nechako Bottle Depot is accepting your recyclable bottles.
All three spots can be found in the south end of the parking lot to the CN Centre.
Sunday will be the final day of the event, which will wrap up around 4 p.m.
