The Green and Gold runs through the family.
UNBC has announced the commitment of Avery Nystedt to the women’s soccer team ahead of the 2019-2020 Canada West season.
It’s a familiar name in the program as she’s the sister fo current Timberwolf Hallie Nystedt.
“I always knew I wanted to play university, and this was a really amazing opportunity for me to continue and grow as a player,” said Nystedt. “I love the environment and the program. And it had the academic program I wanted to go into, so it all fit together and worked out really well.”
The familiarity the Victoria native has with Timberwolves coach Neil Sedgwick also played into her decision. As a ten-year-old, Nystedt was coached by the UNBC bench boss during her time in the Victoria Highlanders program, then again throughout her youth with the Vancouver Island Wave and Epic Academy.
Upon graduation from Stelly’s Secondary School in June, she will then intend to study Environmental Engineering at UNBC.
In July, when she joins her new teammates for training camp, will mark the first time that she and her sister have played on the same field since their time in high school with the Stingers.
