Busy time for Prince George Search and Rescue

After what was a slow few months, Prince George Search and Rescue (PGSR) were on high alert this weekend as they responded to three calls within a 12 hours time frame.

Dale Bull Search Manager said the first call came in Sunday night.

“To have three calls in 12 hours is very unusual for us, it was just a reminder of how prepared we have to be and the level of training we have to maintain to be prepared.”

The first Call PGSR responded to was for a missing person that Bull said was found safely.

Within 4 hours Search and Rescue were back it again to help a hiker who was injured in the Vanderhoof area.

Bull said their helicopter team was needed to evacuate the subject to avoid having to carry them a long distance on foot.

“From a search and rescue standpoint, one of the takeaways is that it’s very hard to predict when things will happen.”

The third call was for a person in distress where a thorough search was conducted before the call was ruled to be a false alarm.

Bull said this weekend was proof they always need to be on top of their game.

“Anytime people are exploring always make sure you have a trip plan and even going out on a minor excursion be prepared for bad things to happen.”
