Library project a long time coming

Prince George City Council was in agreement Monday night, infrastructure updates have been a long time coming for the Prince George Public Library.

Council voted unanimously to increase the budget for renovations and updates to the building from $2.5-million to $3.9-million.

“Once the project is completed we will have a fully accessible entrance into our library so both from the plaza side and the parkade,” said Adam Holmes Director of Engineering for the City of Prince George.

The plan focuses on repairs to the library’s main entrance and the addition of renovations to the library circulation area.

“Right now the main issue is the current staircase, it’s open to elements, and it is fairly unsafe during the winter time.”

The plan will also address things like the location of the elevator which, Holmes said is small, dark, and not very accessible.

The renovation will start in the summer and continue into next year.

During the construction, the Library will remain open.
