No FABRIC-ation: Prince George’s ‘Crappiest’ Couches

You can picture it now.

The claw marks from your four-legged friend.

Cushions with stains straight through them.

Maybe the leather is completely worn through, too?

You might just think you have one of the worst couches known to humankind, but unless you’ve got your story up at Exhibition Park this weekend, you’re perhaps just one broken coil short from having one of Prince George’s ‘crappiest’ couches.

Yes, at the 42nd Home and Garden Show, ten of the city’s worst couches are being showcased (if you could call it that) for event attendees to vote on.

“The Crappy Couch Contest is my favourite part of the 42nd Home Show,” Executive Director, Terri McConnachie told MyPGNow. “We invited people to send us a photo and a story, a little bit of background, about their crappy couch.”

The winner who has the crappiest couch in the Northern Capital will be rewarded with a brand new living room set from Ashley HomeStore.

The contest comes with some rather interesting stories, such as a worried mother whose son recently went through a breakup. Unfortunately for him, his now ex-girlfriend received all the furniture, leaving him with a rugged piece of furniture that’s led him to now be experiencing neck and back pain. He’s only in his 20’s.

If that’s not the winner, then perhaps it’s the individual that would do Red Green, and the rest of Possum Lodge, proud. In what could only be described as their best tribute to the Canadian icon, some poor soul elected to do some patchwork on their leather couch with a pair of leather boots. While the leather allegedly matched, it’s unclear as to whether the heels were used as spare legs for the couch.

“Read the stories, look at the photos,” said McConnachie. “Open your heart to these people with these crappy couches. It happens, It exists. We don’t want to shame them, we want to help them.”

The 42nd Home and Garden Show wraps up on Sunday, with event attendees not only able to cast their vote for the crappiest couch, but also be entered into three of the show’s major prize packages.

A free pancake breakfast is also scheduled for Sunday morning, which is put on by the Board of Directors of the Northern BC Branch of the Canadian Home Builders Association.
