Spruce Kings welcomed back to Prince George with crowd of fans

The rain wouldn’t keep fans from giving the Prince George Spruce Kings a warm welcome after winning their first Fred Page Cup.

Following an impressive run through the BCHL playoffs, which saw Prince George only lose one game, the Spruce Kings took home their first league crown after a 3-1 victory over the Vernon Vipers on Wednesday, completing their third consecutive series sweep.

The players, coaches, and staff filed down the steps of their bus to face the welcoming cheers as the Fred Page Cup was hoisted above their heads one more time with fans packed into the parking lot of the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena.

After each Spruce King player hoisted the trophy, the team gave fans the opportunity to hoist the hardware, which only further extended the cheers that rang out through the crowd

Prince George now has an automatic berth in the RBC Cup National Junior A Championship, after the host Brooks Bandits took the Alberta Junior Hockey League crown after sweeping the Spruce Grove Saints.

The Spruce Kings will now face those very same Bandits in the Doyle Cup, which will get underway April 26th in Brooks.
