RCMP say ‘thank you’ during National Volunteer Week

With National Volunteer Week underway, the Prince George RCMP are thanking their group of devoted volunteers.

“We have about a hundred volunteers at the Prince George Detachment,” said Supt. Warren Brown. “Each one of them provides a great service, not only to this detachment but to the community; and they do so without any expectation of compensation. I want to thank each one of them for choosing to spend some of their valuable time helping us.”

The detachment has six groups of volunteers offering valuable services to the community:

Citizens on Patrol – These volunteers patrol the city reporting suspicious activity to on-duty officers. Often, their efforts result in arrests and charges of persons that may have otherwise gone undetected by police.

Community Policing front desk volunteers – Field inquiries and provide customer assistance to persons at the Community Policing and Victim Services counter at the detachment.

RCMP Auxilary members – These volunteers assist with crime prevention programs and services, which include special events. They also assist the public in bike registration to the 529 Garage App.

Restorative Justice Program – Working with youth and adult offenders, providing effective alternatives to the criminal justice system with a focus on accountability, problem-solving and community healing.

Safety Bear – The Prince George RCMP’s mascot who regularly attends special events and functions.

Victim Services – These individuals provide emotional support to victims of crime or trauma.

For members of the community who may be interested in volunteering with any of the RCMP’s volunteer groups are asked to contact the Prince George RCMP Community Policing Section at 250-561-3366, or drop by the office at 455 Victoria Street.
