The UNBC Timberwolves bolstered its women’s basketball team, announcing the transfer of Emma vanBruinessen from the University of Alberta-Augustana for the 2019-20 Canada West season.
After spending three seasons with the Vikings in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Association, vanBruinessen said the opportunity of taking her career to the next level was a chance she couldn’t pass up on.
“I never really expected to play U Sports basketball, but when the opportunity came up, it was really exciting,” she said. “There is more travel involved with being a U Sport athlete. You get to see so much more. Also, you get to play at the highest level. It is just exciting to move on past my original goals.”
The Leduc, Alberta native finished top five in the ACAC in rebounds in each of her three seasons with the Vikings. This season, the 20-year-old registered 8.3 boards per game and 16.7 rebounds per 40 minutes.
vanBruinessen visited the Prince George campus in January and was impressed by the facilities and environment. She is a Political Science major and has aspirations to one day work in a government-related career.
She joins a Timberwolf team that has qualified for three consecutive Canada West playoffs.
