Pair of local sports organizations to benefit from Program Development Fund

Two area sports organizations will be receiving grants of upwards to $3,000 to be put towards accessible sport programs.

This comes as part of the Community Sport Program Development Fund with both the Canadian and provincial government teaming up to invest nearly $1.2 million into children and youth in sport, thanks to the BC Sport Participation Program.

This funding is designed to assist and improve sports that have gone under-represented, as well as in marginalized populations.

The North Central Badminton Academy will be receiving support to be put towards their introductory program for para-badminton, which is played in wheelchairs and is available to people with and without disabilities.

Also, the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club will receive funding for their outreach program, which provides cross country ski and cycling programs and equipment to schools and Indigenous communities.

Since its inception, the BCSPP has provided more than $14 million to provincial sport and community organizations. This funding has helped train more than 42,000 sports leaders and has allowed more than a million British Columbians to participate in sport.
