The City will be compiling an outline of what poverty looks like in Prince George.
The profile is a community response to Bill 39 – 2018, the Province’s Poverty Reduction Strategy Act, which requires the Minister of Social Development and Poverty Reduction to develop and post a strategy to reduce and prevent poverty in BC by March 31, 2019.
“The report is going to talk about what the face of poverty is in Prince George specifically so that we have a shared understanding of that,” said Chris Bone, Manager of Social Planning.
Following the report, they are going to convene a working group, but the nature of that is yet to be determined.
“We’re hoping to have a representative group from organizations that are concerned and working with poverty in our community.”
Bone said they’re looking to specify where the issues are in Prince George and work from that knowledge to reduce poverty.
The group will be working on a tight schedule, hoping to be able to bring a report to council in June.
