Vanderhoof wind farm making progress

Innergex Energy is continuing to make progress on its plan to build a 300 hectare wind farm 30km south of Vanderhoof.

The Quebec based renewable energy company says they will be submitting their environmental certificate this year.

“At this point the field work has wrapped up.” Says spokesperson Amrit Dhatt “We are still working on the environmental assessment process and will hold a second public meeting sometime this year before we formally submit the certificate.”

Dhatt added that wind power is one of the cleanest energy sources out there;

“We are pretty confident that wind energy is one of the cleanest, most environmentally friendly energy sources there is. It emits no greenhouse gases or pollutants. It doesn’t emit any particles like fossil fuels. And based on recent scientific research there is no evidence to show that there is any impact on human health.”

The plan proposes approximately 70 towers that will provide enough power for 50,000 homes. If everything goes to plan construction could start in 2016 and be completed by 2018.

The local Saik’uz first nation has already signed a letter of intent and is in ongoing talks with Innergex.
