Suspected carjacking leads to arrests in 100 Mile

Williams Lake RCMP and Cariboo Central Traffic Services are investigating a reported collision and “carjacking” on Highway 97 just north of Lac La Hache.

The call came in at 11-24 am yesterday.

Police say they received a report of a grey Hyundai Elantra, which was found to be stolen out of the Kelowna area, driving erratically and was witnessed to have struck at least two vehicles.

The vehicle ended up colliding with one of those vehicles, a Subaru Forester belong to a resident of Lac La Hache, near the end of the passing lanes just north of Lac La Hache.

RCMP say the male driver of the Elantra then removed the keys from the female driver of the Subaru by force.

Fortunately, she was not hurt.

Police say the male driver and a female passenger then continued on north.

100 Mile House RCMP then came across the stolen Subaru shortly after that and were able to successfully stop it after a high-speed takedown was completed just north of 100 Mile.

Traffic on the Highway was stopped for a short time.

No one was hurt during the arrests.

The suspects were taken into police custody and are expected to make an appearance in court for a bail hearing today.

Police say the two individuals are believed to be associated with a number of events in Kelowna, Kamloops, and Merritt.

100 Mile RCMP are now seeking witnesses to this incident.

Anyone with information is asked to call the detachment at 250-395-2456 or Crimestoppers.
