Keri Friesen will be riding in style after being the grand prize winner at Prince George Firefighters’ annual Harley Davidson Raffle, which raised $70,000 for Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation.

The event took place on Saturday with the grand prize draw being for a 2019 Harley Davidson Fat Boy 114 Softtail.

Meanwhile, Terry Kleinstuber ($500) and Ron Fosti ($250) took home the second and third prizes.

This year’s draw marked the 22nd year of the partnership between the firefighters and Spirit of the North.

Just like in years past, the 3,500 tickets for the raffle were all sold (at $20 apiece).

As a result, $70,000 was presented to Spirit of the North in the form of a cheque at the event.

Mark Dorval, Committee Chair for the event, says that money will be going towards a maternal operating room at UHNBC.

“That’ll help. It’s a room dedicated to high-risk birth, which we have quite a few in Prince George. So, rather than having to bump other surgeries, now there’s a room dedicated for those,” said Dorval.

Over 1,150 live births occur at UHNBC each year. Up to 20 per cent of those annual births is said to be considered high risk, meaning that they are emergency C-Section or twin births.

In the 22 years that the Prince George Firefighters and Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation have been partnered for the event, $950,000 has been raised through the annual event.

Given their track record of quickly selling tickets for the raffle, 2020 should see them surpass the $1-million mark.
