Still early days for mandatory reporting of vaccinations in schools, says SD57 Superintendent

The fine details of how mandatory reporting of vaccinations would be implemented in schools still haven’t been ironed out.

According to several media reports B.C. Health Minister Adrian Dix says he expects mandatory reporting of vaccinations to be in place for the start of school in September of this year.

All students in both public and private schools would be required to provide proof of immunization against diseases such as the measles.

According to Marilyn Marquis-Forster, Superintendent of School District 57, how this will all be implemented is still up in the air.

“It’s very early days, we don’t know what that reporting mechanism would look like, or what the information collecting proof would look like. We would wait for Ministry to give us the details,” said Marquis-Forster.

“I do believe that vaccinations are a miracle of modern science and that many of us have benefited from vaccinations in North America, perhaps so much that we forget how difficult coping with potentially deadly diseases can be when there is not that defence available.”

“And so we in the school system always support any improvement to health conditions for our students and our communities,” added Marquis-Forster.
