"Boogie with the Stars" brings in $35k on NYE

“Boogie with the Stars” raked in $35,000 on New Year’s Eve.

Co-founder Peter Weedon is pleased with that total, given the high number of events around the city that night.

“There was an unusual number of New Year’s Eve dances, plus Cirque du Soleil, which definitely had an effect on things,” he says. “Also, on top of that, we were sandwiched between the Festival of Trees and the Winter Games, that also draw a lot of energy and resources out of our community.”

Weedon says a few more donations are still coming in and he hopes that they will exceed last year’s total of $37,000.

He says they will now hold the Spirit of the North Healthcare fundraiser every two years to lessen “donor fatigue”.

The winning dancer this year was Dale Jarvis from IDL construction.
