Weather recap for 2014

Cold snaps, Heat waves, and fluctuating temperatures were the norm for this years weather patterns.

That said, Meteorologist Doug Lundquist says the year was actually very average in terms of temperature. With October being the only odd duck, with a 3.2 degree variation from the norm.

Earlier this month, he said the one thing that stood out for him was the low numbers when it came to precipitation:

“But precipitation wise it was really dry, and that does strike me as being odd. If we take the last, exact year so 365 days back from yesterday we’ve only had about 450 millimeters of precipitation and we usually have around 600”

He says Summer and Spring were the main culprits, where the precipitation just seemed to be lacking than in years past, but says that is remarkable due to the El Nino year – which is also contributing to a much milder winter.

However, looking at temperature specifically he says that the heat of July and August coupled with the relatively balmy temperatures of winter may appear to be unusual, but is actually a relatively common trend.
