Downtown Winterfest promises to be a jam-packed day for local families

Canada Games Plaza will be the site where Prince George residents can celebrate the winter season.

Downtown Winterfest is taking place on Sunday and is sure to be the hot spot with a large volume of activities planned for the whole family.

Downtown Prince George Executive Director, Colleen Van Mook told My PG Now it will be a jam-packed day.

“We’ve got snow sculptures, the ice slide, we have the train, snow golf, snow Zumba, we have S’mores and the food court. This year, we’ve done something a little different where our winter market is indoors.”

With the venue changing to Canada Games Plaza, much like Downtown Summerfest did last year, Van Mook further explains what both events bring to the table during their respective seasons.

“I really think the flavor of both events is come downtown and have some fun. We want you to enjoy what happens in our downtown and these two events celebrate the seasons in an excellent way.”

“We really had a good time at Downtown Summerfest under the new location and we’re expecting this Winterfest to be just as successful.”

One twist to this year’s event is the outdoor market will be heading indoors at the nearby PG Civic and Conference Centre.

“People will have a chance to come in, warm up and do some shopping with over 30 exhibitors and then people can head right back outside and have some fun in the snow and the ice where we will have road hockey and so much more going on.”

The Prince George Public Library and Two Rivers Gallery will also be holding indoor activities throughout the day.

Winterfest will also feature international sculptor Peter Vogelaar where he will create snow sculptures along with the ice slide.

A SMORE Downtown contest is sure to capture the taste buds of everyone who elects to try one.

Downtown Winterfest runs from 11 AM to 4 PM on Sunday.
