A local community association wants to illuminate a dark area of the city.
Michelle Lequereux, Programs Coordinator for the South Bowl Community Association, started a petition last year to fund a light for Ginters Dog Park in Prince George.
“In the evening, when there is no snow, it is pitch black, you can’t even see your hand in front of your face,” she said.
“Even with my dogs, I don’t feel safe going to the parking lot without a light. Dogs are running around, god forbid you’d hit one, and wildlife is an issue as well.”
Lequereux said she has about 140 signatures on the paper copy, and over 250 supporters on an online petition she started under a week ago. She’s bringing the case to Prince George City Council sometime on February 11th.
“Just a light in the parking lot would be amazing and then even just one directional light that faces out away from the homes but lights up a good chunk of the area in the evening.”
She said, ideally, the light would be funded by contributions from both the city and the association.
