Since yesterday evening, two people were involved in vehicle collisions involving pedestrians in Prince George.
According to an RCMP release, just after 7:00 pm they received a report of a motor vehicle incident involving an elderly female pedestrian with a walker at of 5th Ave and Carney Street.
They believe the woman was crossing Carney Street but did not make it to the other side before the light changed.
The driver, a male in a full-sized sedan, was proceeding on the fresh green light and did not immediately see the pedestrian, who was wearing dark clothing.
Though he swerved to avoid her, she was struck by the vehicle’s side mirror.
The woman was transported to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Â
The second collision happened around 12:30 am along 20th Avenue near Spruce Street, when a male was hit by a pickup truck.
RCMP said the man was wearing dark clothing and skateboarding across 20th in the middle of the block when he was struck by the vehicle.Â
He was also transported to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
No charges were laid against either of the drivers, who both remained on scene after the incidents.
“The RCMP would like to remind all pedestrians that reflective clothing or blinking lights are the best way to ensure you are seen when walking along or across our roads,” says Cpl. Craig Douglass, spokesperson for the Prince George RCMP. Â
“Please take the time to ensure you are safe, especially during the dark hours of the day.”
Also last night, a woman died after being hit by a vehicle in Quesnel while crossing the street outside of a marked crosswalk.
