Operation Red Nose is pleased with their numbers over the weekend.
Spokesperson Andrea Johnson says 79 volunteers gave 118 rides home on Friday (night seven), followed by 179 safe rides home Saturday (night eight) by that same number of volunteers.
“We definitely had a really busy weekend,” she says. “A lot of those were house parties, as well, there were still some office parties.”
“We’re pretty happy with this being our second best weekend for nights seven and eight in our 17-year history,” Johnson explains.
After giving 919 rides this year, Red Nose is getting closer to providing its 10,000th ride in Prince George, with only 32 rides to go, Johnson is more than confident they’ll hit that milestone.
“We’ve got a great group of people helping us out this year,” she says. “As well as the clients, the clients are great, we are grateful for them for calling us. The road conditions weren’t great on Saturday night, but we took our time, everyone got home safely.”
She says their focus now is on getting enough volunteers for New Year’s Eve, saying “We definitely need about 50 more volunteers, so that equals about 20 more teams [60 more volunteers] to keep up with demand.”
As New Year’s Eve approaches, Johnson says their volunteer count stands at 222, with 25 teams signed up.
Johnson encourages anyone interested to apply by Wednesday at ORNPG.ca and to the Prince George RCMP detachment on Victoria St..
